| 値 | The Huaxin Company, which, Zhou-Xuexi, a famous official and an entrepreneur established in 1919, was a representative of cotton-spinning companies in northern China of the period. He conceived the idea of foundkag the company in 1915. Four years later the first factory was set up in Tianjin. This paper details the process of its establishment. Initially, Zhou-Xuexi expected to start the company with special privilages, official patronage and outright government subsidy. His hopes of receiving govern-ment assistance, however, was not fulfilled because China at the time was going through a turbulent period of political instability and national disintegration. In response to this, he tried to attract private capital by setting up a private limited company. This starting-up process of the Huaxin Cotton-Spinning Company in Tianjin exemplifies the experience of the national industries in China at this time. |
