| 値 | The purpose of this paper is to point out the differences between aged men and women in the process of becoming poor in daily life. The investigation consisted of conducting life history research of residents of a certain home for the elderly. They had become dependent on social services due to social and environmental circum-stances and had been made to feel discomfort prior to admission to this home. The process of decline, especially in men, is presented in this paper. As a result of this investigation, some interesting facts were obtained regarding the development of dependency in aged men. First, many of those men were born into a family that had a low standard of living. Second, after divorce or separation their life and mental condition deteriorated further. Third, it was found that mental instability led to loss of job or disruption of family relationships. Fourth, because there was a rigid hierarchy according to kind of job, they had few opportunities to get good work. |
