| 値 | In this paper considers the view of love that appears in Higuchi Ichiyo's early works in light of the connection with Trurezuregusa and other classics. The pieces by Ichio discussed come primarily from the 23rd and 24th years of Meiji (1890-1891), and include unfinished fiction and miscellaneous writings, as well as two short love stories, "Yamizakura" (Flowers at Dusk) and "Tamadasuki". Ichiyo became aware of the ephemerality of life both with the death of her older brother and father, and from the sense of having fallen in the world that accompanied her financial distress. Where these experiences are reflected in her works there are frequent quetes from Tsurezuregusa, and the attitude toward love is pessimistic. |
