In this longitudinal study, we investigated the relationship of experience of sports in growth period, the bone metabolic marker and ultrasound parameters of the calcaneus in Japanese University student. This study is initial stage (first year). The subjects were 82 women (age 18.7±0.6 years) of the first-year in Wayo University. Calcaneal bone mass was measured by ultrasound bone densitometer (A-1000EXPRESS, Lunar). The speed of sound (SOS), broadband ultrasound attenuation (BUA) and the stiffness index (Stiffness) of the calcaneus in right foot were measured. Urinary deoxypyridinoline (DPD) was measured as a bone absorption markers. Using a questionnaire, the physical activities during elementary school, junior high school, senior high school and the present were researched. At the same time, menarche age and menstrual cycle were researched. In results, the subjects were divided into five groups according to physical activities (PA group): the physically non-active group, the PA group on elementary school, the PA group from elementary to junior high school, the PA group from elementary to senior high school and the PA group from elementary to now. The average of the Stiffness was shown significant differences among five groups (p \u003c 0.05). The group of junior and senior high school actives was higher Stiffness than elementary actives. The DPD was significant higher than standard value. Negative correlation were showed between DPD and the months after menarche. These results were suggested that Bone Metabolism was partial matured on 18-19 years.
