| 内容記述 | Industrial heritage sites in Polar Regions are very important as sources of historical information. Together with archival documents this information gives us the possibility to complete the picture of the exploitation of natural resources in those regions. Thirty years of historical-archaeological field research at whaling and mining sites in Spitsbergen (Svalbard), South Georgia and the Antarctic Peninsula has shown that these sites can provide unique evidence about the driving forces behind industrial development, the design of industrial technology, the structure of the settlements, strategies to control natural resources and achieve political influence, and the impact of resource extraction on the local environment. In this article we will give examples of the results of our research at these sites. | |||||||||

| 内容記述 | 極地における産業遺構地は歴史的情報源として非常に重要である。この情報と保存資料によって、我々は極地における天然資源の開発像を完成させることができうる。スピッツベルゲン（スバールバル）諸島、サウスジョージア島そして南極半島における捕鯨域と採鉱地についての30年の歴史的-考古学的分野の調査により、これらの場所は、産業開発、産業技術の設計、開拓の体制、天然資源支配と政治的影響力獲得の戦略、そして局所環境での資源抽出の影響力といった事柄を支える原動力についてのユニークなエビデンスを提供しうる、ということが示された。本稿では、これらの場所における筆者らの調査結果を例に挙げて説明する。 | |||||||||
