| 内容記述 | Communication patterns in China and Japan are strikingly different, and this paper holds that the origins of this difference can be found in two key words of two texts that are of supreme importance for Chinese and Japanese culture: “Rectification of Names” (zhengming) in the Analects of Confucius, and “the Soul of the Word” (kotodama) in Manyōshū, the earliest collection of Japanese poetry from before the end of the 8th century. The paper evaluates the importance (or non-importance) of “the word” in the basic religious-philosophical systems of Shamanism, Confucianism, and Buddhism and examines some concrete aspects of language and communication, such as “space”, “man”, and “self”, and the importance of poetry, grammar, rhetoric, and state examinations in the development of patterns of communication in China and Japan. |
