| 内容記述 | ヒポクラテスの歳言"人生は短く,術の道は長い"は,セネカ,アリストテレス,シェクスピア,ディケンズ,ゲーテなど多くの著者に引用されている.ゲーテファウスト初稿では,ワーグナーの台詞で,"術のみちは長く,人生は短い"と逆に引用されている.私は,古代ギリシアでの"術"の意味を検討し,ファウストの台詞とファウスト初稿での台詞の差異を比較した.ゲーテはファウスト初稿では,術を生命より強調するために,箴言の順序を変え,さらに,箴言の終わりに感嘆符(!)を加えた.彼はファウスト初稿をファウストに書き換えた時に,ファウストでは,箴言のはじめの"ああ"を"ああ!"に変更し,行末の感嘆符を削除した. | |||||

| 内容記述 | Hippocrates aphorism "Life is short, the Art long" has been quoted by many authors as Seneca, Aristotle, Shakespeare, Dickens or Goethe and so on. In Goethe's Faust, this aphorism was quoted in Wagner's lines oppositelyas "Art is long, Life short". I discussed meaning of "art" in ancient Greece and compared the lines in Faust with those in the first manuscript of Faust which was called Urfaust. For the purpose of stressing the art than life, Goethe changed sequence of the aphorism and added exclamation mark (!) at the end of it in Urfaust. When he revised Urfaust, he converted into "aha God!" al the top of aphorism instead of "aha God" in Faust and eliminated the exclamation mark at the end of it. | |||||
