内容記述 | Regardless of the method used to survey cultural properties, the presumption is that the method will not damage the object. This is also the case when photographs are taken of a work, when light energy levels must be controlled. Compared to the energy amounts generated by infrared light ranges used in analysis, less energy is generated by the electromagnetic waves used to create infrared images and they do not damage the cultural properties photographed. Photography with infrared light is an effective method for surveying pigment materials which can be expected to fade, such as the organic pigments used in Asian painting. Existing technologies were able to confirm the underdrawing of a painting, and see indistinct charcoal lines. However, by nature infrared light techniques cannot be said to have produced visual image records of the physical phenomena created by the physical properties of the subject and the electromagnetic waves. Image information is used in the field of cultural properties, particularly by art historians. Images which present information on the elements and pigments related to expression and production in a work of art are necessary research tools for such art historical research, and yet, there are still no methods today which fully display all of these required elements. This article resolves previous issues, and presents an explanation of the methods used to create images using the optical qualities of the infrared spectrum. This method will provide new visual information and will be able to produce research images in the future. |
