内容記述 | The family lineage down from Takanobu FUJIWARA, a talented poet and painter at the end of the Heian Period, and his son Nobuzane, who was more than a mediocre poet and profoundly contributed to the prevalence of nisee portraiture, produced numerous prominent artists in the unique field of nisee. Many of them were middle-class courtiers and succeeded the painting techniques innovated by Takanobu. Such a succession of painting techniques is an interesting aspect in the art history of the period. Information on their activities is by no means sufficient, but persevering investigation of their achievements may be expected to bring forth deeper understanding of the basis on which the nisee was developed. In the present paper, the author intends to survey the lineage for the purpose. First he refers to the possibility that Nobuzane FUJIWARA was alive up to the late 1260's, and then examines the activities of his descendants. Nobuzane's son, Tametsugu enjoyed his smooth court life and ascended to the rank of ju-sammi (the lower rank in the third level), but his painting activities are not clearly documented, possibly because they were overshadowed by those of Nobuzane blessed with longevity. As for those of Korenobu, a grandson of Nobuzane, we have no dependable contemporary materials. On the other hand, much is recorded about the career of a greatgrandson of Nobuzane, Tamenobu, as a poet and painter. His stay in Kamakura, which is evidenced by his own anthology, is noteworthy in the context of the problems of nisee in Kamakura. It seems that he is the person who substantially inherited the painting techniques of Takanobu and Nobuzane. |
