内容記述 | Here introduced is a pair of six-paneled folding screens with ink paintings of landscapes of four seasons both of which bear KANŌ Eitoku's jar-shaped seal which reads Kuninobu. This seal, perhaps, is the same seal as the one on the famous “Screen Painting of Views of Kyoto” by Eitoku which is owned by the UESUGI family. And the seal on the latter screen painting is regarded as the most authenticated seal of Eitoku. The screens introduced in the present paper hence have traditionally been associated with the name of Eitoku. But, in the present author's opinion, their stylistic characteristics are those of Eitoku. When compared with some of the painted sliding screens of the Jukōin, Daitokuji, and the “Screen Painting of the Anecdote of Hsü-yu and Ch’ao-fu” in the Tokyo National Museum, both believed to be his authentic works, have an old-fashioned crispness, and a formalized rigidity and coarseness which are not found in Eitoku's works. On the other hand they have some common features with a work by Genkyū which was introduced in No. 51 of this journal. The present author here proposes the idea that they must be the work of Genkyū who was one of the assistants of Eitoku. Other details of the personal history of Genkyū are notknown. | |||||
