内容記述 | The artist of the Plum Blossoms introduced here is P'an-Tz'u 潘賜, a high official of the early Ming Period. He was born in P'u-ch'êng-hsien 浦城県, Fukien 福健 Province, and he used the “siyle names” of Wen-yung 文錫 and Jungan 容庵 as well. He passed the examination for the higher civil service in the second year of Yung-lo 永楽 (1404) and was despatched to Japan three times. He was not a name-painter, and this work is also a pure amateur painting. Being different from the ordinary ink plumblossoms of this period which display complicated minute compositions and techniques of ink and brush, and holding to a tradition of much simpler composition which is considered to have been invented in the first half of the Yüan Period, it could be called a real pleasure painting of a literary class person. It is a naive, lovely work. Judging from the meaning of one of the stamped seals and verses of the inscrided poem, it is assumed to be a work done on his third visit to Japan, at the beginning of 1435. | |||||
