| 内容記述 | 本研究は、中部イタリア・トスカーナ地方の共和制都市国家において、聖人の聖遺物がどのように収集され、教会側とコムーネ政府側によっていかに利用されたかを解明するものである。その一例として、5世紀頃から14世紀のピストイア大聖堂を取り上げ、聖堂の守護聖人、祭壇の捧げられた聖人、移葬された聖遺物について現存史料より再構成を試みる。そして、同聖堂の最も重要な聖遺物である使徒大ヤコブの聖遺物に注目し、この聖遺物が12世紀初頭にコンポステーラ大司教ディエゴ・ヘルミレスからピストイア司教アットに分与された経緯とその意図について論じた。当時のピストイアでは、コムーネ政府の誕生により司教の特権が脅かされ、政府高官コンソリと司教の関係が極度に悪化していた。そこで司教アットは、両者の関係改善のために聖遺物の入手を試みたと考えられる。共和制都市国家が発展した時期の聖遺物収集には、教会とコムーネ政府の複雑に絡まり合った政治的意図が反映されているのである。 | |||||||||||

| 内容記述 | This paper aims to analyze how the relics of saints were obtained and used by the Church and the government in the Tuscan city-states in central Italy. I took up the case of the cathedral of Pistoia from the fifth to the fourteenth century and examined the transition of its titulus, the altars dedicated to saints and the translatio of the relics by analyzing the related documentations. In particular, I noted the relic of St. James the Great, the most important relic in the cathedral: I discussed the purpose for which St. Atto, the bishop of Pistoia, requested the archbishop of Compostela, Diego Gelmirez, to donate this relic in the early twelfth century, and the process involved therein. In Pistoia during this period, the bishop's privileges were threatened by the rise of an autonomous government and the relationship between the government officials (consoli) and the bishop deteriorated. It seems, therefore, that the Bishop Atto strived to acquire this relic to improve this strained relationship. During the development of the city-states, the intricate political relationship between the Church and the government was reflected in the collection of relics. | |||||||||||
