| 内容記述 | Among many festivals celebrated by the Hindus in North India, this paper describes only five of them mainly dedicated to the Goddesses in this manner: the days and the ways they are celebrated, the stories on their origin and the songs sung on the day. The five are as follows: ・Gangaur, in which the wives pray to Gan and his wife Gaur for the long lives of their husbands. ･Śītalāstomī, in which the ladies pray to the goddess of smallpox Śītalā not to attack their family members. ・Vat Sāvitrī, in which the wives pray to the Goddess and pious wife Sāvitrī for the healthy life of their husbands. ・Dīwālī, in which men and women invite the Goddess of wealth Laksmī to their homes. ・Holī, in which men and women invite Holikā, the Goddess of spring/new year. On the occasions of these festivals goddesses living in the heaven come down to the earth and meet human beings. Thus, Hindu Festivals dedicated to the Goddesses provide excellent occasions for human beings to come closer to the heavenly Goddesses. |
