| 内容記述 | Agriculture sector was one of the major growth engines of emerging countries like Mekong economy. The surplus labor in the agriculture sector had been absorbed by industrialization in Thailand during the last decades. The agriculture output has been sources of foreign currencies earning from export-led growth policy in Thailand. The rural-urban migration in Thailand has resulted in a labor shortage in agriculture with successful industrialization process. This paper tests the Lewis turning point hypothesis applying the Minami’s criterions (1968). We have tested the criterions especially the equality between the marginal productivity and real wages with data 1990-2015 and found that the turning point may occur around early of 2000’s. Although, it is still a ‘local’ rather than ‘global turning point’ as has been hypothesized by Minami. The Mekong economy, the CLMV currently has surplus labor in their agriculture sector. The surplus labor may be dried up should they would reach their turning point in the distant future. The Mekong economy has to plan for their turning periods if the industrialization in Mekong economy would repeat Thailand’s experiences. | |||||||
