ばんえい競馬において，第2障害越えの成否は競走結果に大きな影響を及ぼす.本研究では，ばんえい競走馬が第2障害を登坂するときの運動の特徴を数値化し，それらの値と競走結果との関係を検討した.延べ37頭の競走馬について登坂運動時のフォームをデジタルビデオカメラで録画した.画像解析プログラムを用い馬体水平線と胴引との角度を求め(胴引き角度)，その角度から馬の腰の上下運動を数値化した.競走結果(競走タイム，着順，登坂時間，登坂順位)に影響を及ぼす要因として，登板時の停止の有無，歩法(常歩 : 駈歩)，および胴引き角度(18.3度以上 : 以下)と年齢(2歳 : 3歳以上)の交互作用について分析した.その結果，登坂時に停止しない馬の競走結果が良く，また2歳馬においては胴引き角度の大きい(腰の高い)馬が，一方3歳以上の馬においては胴引き角度の小さい(腰の低い)馬の競走結呆が良い傾向が示された.2歳馬と3歳以上の馬で異なる結果が示されたのは，ばんえい重量が登坂運動時のフォームに影響を及ぼし，さらにそれが競走結果にも影響するためではないかと推察した.
