内容記述 | This article deals with the origins of the ten shrines built in Nanjing by the Ming Dynasty government during the reign of Dynasty founder, Hongwu (1328-1398), in order to clarify that Dynasty’s earliest policies concerning these places of worship.1. The Nanjing Shrines were built in 1387 on Mt. Jiming 鶏鳴, north of the palace, but were preceded by shrines constructed at the time of the Dynasty’s founding to honor the war dead and distinguished ministers at such locations as Lake Poyang 鄱陽湖, Nanchang 南昌 and Jinhua 金華.2. Most of the gods that were enshrined at the Ten Shrines, had been worshipped locally in Nanjing from ancient times and were selected because of their “contributions to the people” and their “loyalty to the state.” However, they also included shrines renowned throughout Jiangnan, such as Zhangwang (Cishan-miao 祠山廟) and Wuxian (Wutong五通).3. The research to date has concluded that the reformation of ritual implemented under Emperor Hongwu was strongly influenced by abstract nee-Confucian fundamentalist ideas devoid of a sense of reality; however, the institution of a system by which shrines were to be officially recognized, recording them in the Register of Sacrifices 祀典, follows the policy of shrine protection and control that existed since the Song period, despite the decrease in their numbers to only a few per prefecture (with the exception of Suzhou蘇州). | |||||
