The Cemetery of Armenoi is very important for its size and major rich finds, although the years\u0027 survey has not located the settlement which it belonged to. Thus, with the present evidence available to us, we are not yet in a position to reconstruct the complete picture of this wealthy society. Nevertheless, recent interdisciplinary researches have shed light on some aspects of Armenoi. Among them in particular, it is worth noting the intriguing results, acquired by astronomical research, specifically, the measurement of the azimuth of each tomb and the consistently eastern orientation of the tombs. It revealed that only the azimuth of the earliest tholos tomb in the cemetery accords with that of the peak of Mt. Vrysinas situated east of the cemetery, which was used as a Middle Minoan peak sanctuary, while all the other tombs probably face the sunrise or moonrise. Based on this fact, the researchers concluded that the Cemetery of Armenoi was related to the moonrise and that the Minoan people of Armenoi might have worshipped a lunar goddess. The author took up this theory and examined it in the context of the iconography of the so-called \"goddess with upraised arms\" painted on the short side of a larnax found in Tomb 24. This type of goddess, originally a goddess of fertility from the Near East, became very popular in post-palatial Crete. Her attributes seem multiple judging from the attachments, e.g. snakes, birds, and poppies, on the head and arms. She may be a terrestrial divinity or celestial, or both. Anyway, she is not alone.
