They failed to meet in Tokyo in 1992. This paper is an attempt to envision their failed conversation over their childhood in Korea under the rule of Japanese Empire and explore how they became artists in the period of modernization in the colonial Korea, by comparing their family background, their memories about Korea, their education of literature, history, music, and fine arts under the modern system or in the traditional way, and their attitudes toward the nation and the homeland.
