The present survey notes are intended to give brief knowledge on the upto-date state of the progress of the BAC-Sud Aviation CONCORDE and the American SST programs, general technical, economical and psychological problems associated with the development and operation of SST, and on some of the features and characteristics of the three designs by BAC-Sud Aviation, Boeing and Lockheed. It seems that the biggest problem lies at present in economy in a broad sense rether than in technology or direct operating cost of SST itself. The competition aimed at the same goal between Boeing and Lockheed, or between variable sweep with heavy wing loading and fixed sharp delta with light wing lading, attracts our keenest attention from technological standpint. The Mach 2.2 CONCORDE, though the progress of which is reported to have been slowed down, is still likely to lead the Mach 3 American SST\u0027s by a few years.
