| 内容記述 | 20世紀初頭に、イギリス軍最大の植民地インドにおいて、インド軍総司令官キッチナーにより大規模な軍制改革が行われた。彼はエジプト、スーダンや南アフリカなどの海外植民地で豊富な経験を積み、広い視野を持った歴戦の軍人であった。改革により、参謀制度などの新しいシステムが導入され、インド軍は近代的な軍隊へと変化した。その過程では、インド総督ミントーも重要な役割を果たし、改革は本国政府とインド政庁間のインド支配と密接に関わるものであり、そこからは帝国主義期イギリスの実相を垣間見ることができる。 | |||||

| 内容記述 | Lord Kitchener was one of the most famous national heroes during British Empire's era of imperialism. Kitchener's long experience of being "colonial officer" abroad gave him a much wider frame of reference. As an administrator, soldier, or reformer, in Egypt, Sudan, and South Africa, he approached his tasks in a unique fashion. After the Bore war, in particular, as the Commander-in-Chief in India, he proposed to reorganize the Army in India in order to answer the larger needs of the Empire. Moreover, he improved the Indian staff system to increase the efficiency of the army. The then Viceroy of India, Lord Minto, supported Kitchener's reforms. As a result of Kitchener–Minto Reform, the Indian army became a more efficient unit in the British Army, serving the Empire to the extent that it did during the Great War. | |||||
